Mikel Azkarate-Askasua is a researcher at IKR since 2008. He is currently working on the development of dependable traction systems for railway domain (up to SIL2).

He holds a Master in Embedded Systems by the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Electronique, Informatique et de Radiocommunications de Bordeaux, Industrial Electronics Technical Engineering by Mondragon University and doctoral studies in Computer Science at Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien) in the field of safety-critical embedded systems (System On Chip). He has previously worked as grant holder at IKR and Technische Universiteit Delft (Holland).
